Close Encounters of the Creative Kind
Vancouver Operative Kat Thorsen collaborated with Dr Ching-Chiu Lin from UBC to bring sock monkey therapy to Seniors at Summerhill Retirement Residence last month, and the results are both adorable and inspiring. This project is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) through an Insight Grant entitled “The Transversality Hub: Towards a new mode of learning for community arts practice,” in which Ching-Chiu Lin (Principal investigator) and Kat Thorsen and Bev Pomeroy (Research consultants) worked together to examine how sock monkey making creates a space of encounter that enables seniors’ creative engagement and dialogue.
