Childrens Day at Salaam Balaak Trust

In India, Children’s Day is celebrated on November 14, the birthday of the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru emphasized the importance of giving love and affection to children, who he saw as the bright future of India. All over the country, various cultural & social institutions hold festivities for children. Children’s Day is seen as a day for the kids to engage in fun.

This year, in Celebration of Children’s Day, Operation Sock Monkey has teamed up with Salaam Baalak Trust, an Indian NGO providing shelter, education and opportunity to young people living on the streets of New Delhi. A delegation of  sock monkeys from OSM will be distributed to children in SBT centres on Nov 14. S.B.T provides shelter for approximately 400 young people between the ages of 6-18 years old through 5 children’s homes located in Delhi.  There are 3 homes for boys  and 2 homes for girls. It’s estimated that there are over 50,000 children living on the streets of Delhi today. In 2012 alone, services provided by S.B.T.  have benefited nearly 5000 homeless youth. OSM is honoured to partner with Salaam Baalak Trust to help bring smiles, joy and comfort to children of S.B.T. Shelters.

Sponsor a sock monkey today to be a part of this inspiring initiative.
