Russian Delegation/Clowns Sans Frontières
This summer OSM is pleased to be teaming up with Clowns Sans Frontières – Canada to bring laughter, hope & healing to children in Russia. C.S.F. has 3 expeditions to eastern Europe planned for this year, one has already taken place and another 2 are planned for July and November.
Beslan: 5-13 April 2013, they held circus workshops in a community that was victim to a terrorist attack in 2004. The Beslan school hostage crisis of lasted three days and involved the capture of over 1,100 people as hostages, ending with the death of over 380 people in the community. This community is still feeling the pain of this tragic event and CSF brought some laughter and healing to the school. Read more about this mission in CSF’s Clown Diary.
In Sorochany: July 14 to August 2, 2013, CSF will run events and circus workshops in a summer camp for orphans from the Moscow region. In the winter months, Sorochany is world-famous as a ski and snowboard resort but this summer the fun will be had by orphans and vulnerable children working with Russian aid foundations and CSF. OSM is providing 100 + sock monkey delegates for this mission, to be given to the children at the camp and integrated into storytelling activities.
Operatives from all over the continent have been crafting up the delegation for this mission , with sock monkey donations coming in from Portland, OR, Vancouver, B.C. Newmarket, Waterloo, and Toronto ON. Special thanks to Operatives Sarina Muller, Diana Brugos, Anna Reddish and Shelley Jones for facilitating workshops in schools to create this big batch of love and monkey hugs!
Later this year, CSF will tour Moscow and St. Petersburg: 7 to 23 November 2013, providing live entertainment to orphanages and hospitals, where they will distribute more sock monkey delegates to those in need of a smile. Proceeds from OSM workshops & fundraising will support these expeditions and help bring smiles across the miles.
